About the Club

The Club at New Seabury is located in the New Seabury community on Cape Cod and overlooks the Nantucket Sound. Privately owned and situated on 2,000 acres, the Club offers 36-holes of golf on its Ocean and Dunes courses. The Oceans Course, designed by William Mitchell in 1962, is a par 72 that measures 7,131 yards with a slope/rating of 136/75.7. The Dunes Course is a par 70 and measures 6,021 with a slope/rating of 125/70.0. The two course combined host 35,000 rounds annually. Renovations are planned for the Dunes course in spring 2018 and the Oceans Course in spring 2019. Additional golf amenities include: a pro shop located in the clubhouse; a twelve-acre practice facility with two expansive grass hitting areas; a two-acre short game area; and a 20,000 sq.ft.putting green with a 100 yard bunker. The Club has approximately 640 active golfers and offers a robust schedule of golf events as well as private and group instruction for adults and juniors.

Additional club amenities include a 42,000 square-foot clubhouse, a beach pavilion with snack bar, waterfront Popponessett Inn with restaurant and tented event space, Beach Bar and Lounge, private beach access, active social and junior programming and 24 keys for lodging. The Club recently completed a 9,000 square foot athletic center that features a pool, tennis courts, dining, and a state-of-the-art fitness center complete with workout areas, sauna, and steam room.

The Club is open approximately nine months of the year; golf is available year round, weather permitting on the Dunes Course.

About the Position

The Director of Golf provides leadership and operational direction for all aspects of golf and retail operations. He/she is responsible for developing and implementing strategies, standard operating procedures, and programming to provide exceptional service and a premier golf experience to members and their guests, while ensuring the policies and best interests of the Club are met and protected.

This year-round position reports to the President and General Manager and interacts with the Men’s and Ladies Associations. He/she will lead the golf department staff including the golf professionals, pro shop staff, and outside services. Hiring, mentoring, and developing a high achieving staff and nurturing a member-focused, high touch service culture that highly values member recognition, anticipatory service, and the enhancement of the golf experience across all player segments is an important function of this role. The Director of Golf is also responsible for creating, maintaining and overseeing a profitable merchandising operation consistent with member and guest demographics, needs, and preferences.

About the Ideal Candidate

The Club is seeking an engaging and approachable leader who will be well received and accessible to a wide range of members of varying dispositions and playing skills; a PGA Professional with an overriding sense of quality awareness relating to every part of the golf operations including a high quality, courteous, and well-trained staff. Candidates with experience and success instituting new and innovative member experiences and hospitality practices are highly desired.

The successful candidate will have experience and demonstrated success overseeing all administrative, fiscal responsibilities and performance criteria for the golf and retail operations, including planning, budgeting, forecasting, monitoring and corrective management. Ideal candidates will have strong backgrounds in retail and merchandising and be knowledgeable about current trends and best practices related to green grass retail operations. Candidates must also have experience and success in recruiting, developing, and retaining outstanding professional and seasonal staff.

Candidates should be PGA Class “A” certified with a minimum of eight years or more of professional golf management experience with a minimum of four years as a Head Professional. This experience should have been achieved largely at a respected, full service, country club or high-end resort. Multi-course experience is highly desired. Candidates must also have experience owning or managing a green grass retail operation with sales volume of $500,000 or higher.
