About the Club

Newport Beach Country Club is located along Pacific Coast Highway in scenic Newport Beach between Newport Center and Newport Bay. Perched above the Pacific Coast Highway with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, the Club’s new 65,000 square foot, two-story Craftsman Clubhouse features resort-style amenities and modern beach flair and was The 2017 Clubhouse of the Year by Golf Inc. Newport Beach Country Club’s facilities and services are the benchmark for Southern California Clubs and offer extraordinary experiences to its 600 members and their families. The Club offers a range of dining and athletic facilities that is matched by few of its contemporaries. Dining areas offer Members and their guests seamless indoor-outdoor areas, al fresco dining, along with numerous fireplaces and fire pits for cool coastal evenings. Its architectural style is uniquely suited to the Southern California beach climate and lifestyle.

The eighteen-hole par 71 golf course measures 6,600 yards and hosts approximately 50,000 rounds annually. It was designed by world renowned William P. “Billy” Bell and was renovated by Ted Robinson. The original design, known for its challenging water hazards and mature trees, is further redefined by Robinson’s enhancements and continues to provide an alluring challenge for both the members and professional golfers. As the venue for The PGA Champions Tour Event, The Toshiba Classic, Newport Beach Country Club hosts some of the greatest names in golf on their tight tree lined fairways.

About this Position

The Director of Golf provides leadership and operational direction for all aspects of golf operations including planning, budgeting, forecasting, monitoring, and corrective management. He/she ensures that members and guests receive premier service and an exceptional golf experience with the highest standards for all golf programming and services across all player segments. He/she also assists in the hosting of The Toshiba Classic.

The Director of Golf recruits, trains, mentors, and monitor performance of the golf operations team and nurtures a member-focused, high touch service culture that highly values member recognition, anticipatory service, and the enhancement of the member experience. He/she will maintain a pleasant and professional manner at all times; be visible and readily accessible to members and their guests at appropriate times when activity levels are high or as important events occur. The Director of Golf devotes an appropriate number of hours to play golf with a wide variety of members and interact with guests in a congenial and professional manner. Ensures assistant golf professionals are scheduled and trained for the same level of member service and interaction.

About the Ideal Candidate

Ideal candidates will have a personal style and level of congeniality that allows him/her to be well received and accessible to a wide range of members of varying dispositions and playing skills. An individual with a professional presence, but who is unpretentious, with high personal, professional, and ethical standards.  Must be proactive and comfortable engaging and conversing with the membership and genuinely enjoys building relationships.

Candidates should be PGA Class “A” certified with a minimum of eight years or more of professional golf management experience with a minimum of four years as a Head Professional. This experience should have been achieved largely at a respected, full service, country club or high-end resort with 18+ holes of golf hosting in excess of 35,000 rounds annually. Candidates must also have experience owning or managing a green grass retail operation with sales volume of $500,000 or higher.
