About the Club

The Pepper Pike Club, located in Pepper Pike, Ohio, is an exclusive private Golf Club whose members are influential business and community leaders. The Club had its genesis prior to 1914 when golf enthusiasts, who belonged to Mayfield Country Club, discussed the feasibility of organizing a new golf club. The first steps toward the creation of a new club were taken in 1914 just before the start of World War. Nothing was done to exercise the options until 1920 after the war ended. The Club celebrated its formal opening on July 6, 1925. Since then, it has retained its early format as a golf club, with some additions to the clubhouse and other structures.

More recently, the Club has undergone a $3.5 million renovation of the Clubhouse. This project consisted of the addition of a formal dining room with seating for 70+, a cocktail lounge, a new interior and outdoor patio bar and terrace offering one of the most spectacular views anywhere in the city, and relocation and renovation of the kitchen, all while maintaining the Club’s original design and character. The golf course is currently in its 2nd year of a four year $1.5 M renovation master plan. This plan will return the course to its original design as mapped out in 1924 by renowned golf course architect William S. Flynn, an outstanding architect of the Scottish School. The Club is planning a restoration of the men’s locker room in the very near future.

Pepper Pike Club is open year-round with hours varying by season; the golf course is open April 1st to October 31st.  Total gross revenue is $4.4 million of which $300,000 is derived from food and beverage. The Club has 240 members and employs 26 employees year-round and 60 employees from April to October.

About the Position

The General Manager has full P&L responsibility and is responsible for managing all operations of The Pepper Pike Club, reporting to the Club President and Board of Directors. The General Manager must exhibit the highest level of personal and professional conduct both within and outside of the Club and maintain the high profile yet understated nature of Pepper Pike Club with a presence, gravitas, and sense of sophistication necessary to serve the membership.

With the Board of Directors and the Committees focused on policy and programming, the General Manager will report to and advise the governance groups, along with the President, offering industry perspective and professional expertise. The General Manager owns all management accountability; the Board and committees interface with management through the General Manager.

The General Manager leads the management team which includes the Controller, Golf Course Superintendent, Golf Professional, Executive Chef, and Locker Room Manager. He will monitor the quality of the Club’s staff, products, and services to ensure maximum member and guest satisfaction and will endeavor to ensure an atmosphere of hospitality, friendliness, and goodwill.

The General Manager is retiring after 25 years of excellent service. The start date for this position will be in the fall of 2018.

About the Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be an established General Manager with a track record of managing highly regarded private golf clubs or country clubs. Candidates must possess excellent communication skills, food and beverage knowledge, operational, and financial skills and have the experience to work effectively with a traditional Board and Committee system.

The General Manager will be expected to have an affable personality and continue the established and honored traditions to maintain the high standards and profile of Pepper Pike Club with his or her presence and sense of sophistication.

Candidates should have a minimum of ten years of progressively more responsible club management positions at similar scale, highly regarded, private clubs (ideally golf-centric) leading in the direction of a General Manager. A college graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management or equivalent is required. Professional certifications (CHA, CCM, CCE) or similar professional development achievements are highly desired.
