Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

About the Club

The Wianno Club is an iconic, seasonal, private club located on 156 acres overlooking Nantucket Sound in Osterville, Massachusetts. Since 1916, the Club has been dedicated to providing its members and their families with a wide range of social and athletic activities. Rich in tradition and casual elegance, the Club features a quintessential “Shingle Style” New England clubhouse that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and an 18-hole Donald Ross golf course. Other amenities and programs include tennis, paddle, beach, dining, junior activities and 47 guest bedrooms. The Club has recently completed a four-year Master Plan.

The Clubhouse is 50,000 square feet and offers informal and formal seasonal dining opportunities with various event spaces. The Club is open from mid-May to mid-October; the golf course is open from mid-March to mid-December, weather permitting. There are currently 675 members. Gross revenues are $8 million with $7.8 million with $2.4 million derived from food and beverage sales; approximately 15% of food and beverage sales are generated from private events. There are approximately 18 year round employees and 225 seasonal employees.

About the Position

The CFO is responsible for directing the financial operation and functions of the Club and assisting the General Manager/COO and the Finance Committee on strategic matters relating to budget development, management, analytics/metrics, forecasting needs, and internal controls. This position is also responsible for developing policies to control and coordinate accounting, auditing, budgets, taxes, Club assets and related activities and records, and develops, establishes and administers procedures and systems pertaining to all financial matters. The CFO evaluates operating results in terms of costs, budgets, policies of operation, trends and increased profit possibilities, and makes recommendations. He or she manages the organization, staffing, scheduling, training and professional development of their department members, as well as oversees the technical Human Resources matters of the Club, and the Membership department of the Club.

The CFO will directly oversee the accounts payable and accounts receivable staff members as well as foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within the Management Team of the Club with regard to departmental financial matters; holding department heads accountable for operational financial success. Experience and savvy with the research, procurement and implementation of various information management systems and technologies is highly desired.

Reporting to the GM/COO and Club Treasurer, the CFO will also interface with the Finance Committee and Board of Governors. The CFO will be responsible for all aspects of financial operations in the absence of the GM/COO.

About the Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be analytic, proactive, and strategic in their thinking around financial matters of the Club. A positive and outgoing personality to engage with a sophisticated membership and staff members is highly desired, as is being comfortable with providing presentations. The ability to educate and mentor team members to assist them with operation financial success in their respective departments is important, as is the ability to hold others accountable.

Candidates must have graduated from a four-year college or university with a degree in accounting, finance or a related field and have a minimum of five years professional accounting experience. Experience in private clubs or other high-end hospitality related operations in a controller/accounting capacity is required. Preference will be given to candidates with an MBA in Finance and CPA or CHAE certification. Additional club management certifications (ex. CCM, CCE) are highly desirable.

Candidates must demonstrate a desire, interest and commitment to live in Cape Cod and embrace the New England culture and climate. Candidates must also be eager and willing to work in a seasonal club environment with availability to work on the weekends and evenings as needed.
