About the Club
Established in 1909 and located on 187 acres of beautiful property in Paramus, New Jersey, Arcola Country Club features an 18-hole golf course designed by Harry Auchterlonie, Herbert H. Barker, and Robert Trent Jones Sr. The course has been ranked in the top 20 in New Jersey by Golf Digest since 2017. Measuring 7,300 yards from its longest tees and featuring four sets of tees for different skill levels, the course hosts 17,000 rounds annually. The Club co-hosted the 122nd US Amateur Championship in 2022 and will be the site of the 108th Met Open Championship in 2023.
In addition to great golf, Members enjoy dining in the Club’s Main Dining Room, Mixed Grill Room, Men’s Grill Room, and Patio, all with beautiful views of the New York City skyline just 20 miles away.
The Club has recently embarked on an exciting $5 million renovation project to expand and upgrade the dining spaces, patio area, locker rooms, and employee break room. Membership is abuzz with an expected completion date in early 2024.
Gross revenue is $6.5 million with Food & Beverage accounting for $1.6 million. There are 90 staff members at the height of the season and a total of 350 memberships today. The Club is closed from January through February 14th. In season, from May through October, the Club is closed on Mondays, open on Tuesdays for lunch, and Wednesday through Sunday for lunch and dinner. During November, December, March, and April the Club is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and offers lunch and dinner services Wednesday through Sunday.
About the Position
The Club Manager will report to the House Committee Chairman and the President and Board of Directors and be responsible for the overall day-to-day operations of the club, including the general care and maintenance of the facility and property. The next Club Manager will delegate appropriate authority to department heads while retaining ultimate responsibility for the Club operations. He/she will be peers with the Superintendent and Head Golf Professional and ensure excellent communication and collaboration in providing an excellent member experience and sharing the mission and vision of Arcola Country Club. The Club Manager will be extensively involved int eh current $5 million renovation project of the Clubhouse and will ultimately serve as the “face of the club” both externally within the community and internally as a person and personality whom members are eager to see.
Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
About the Ideal Candidate
This is a wonderful opportunity for an ambitious and eager leader to join a terrific Club! The selected candidate will have a minimum of seven years of progressively more responsible private club management positions leading up to a Director, F&B, or Assistant General Manager role of a well-regarded, private club ideally of similar scale, culture, and amenities. He/she will have a strong professional track record in shaping and leading excellent service in programming and has successfully implemented a robust training program.
He/she must have been involved with and or managed capital projects and renovations. The ideal candidate will also have experience developing and implementing a variety of creative programming and have a strong financial understanding with the ability to build and manage budgets and expenses effectively. The next Club Manager will have a record of success in the selection, development, training, and positive motivation of accomplished, service-oriented staff in a private club environment and be a visible and excellent leader who can foster a member-focused service culture that is consistent across all departments. He/she will be well organized and proactive and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
The successful candidate will ideally be a college graduate. Professional certifications (CCM, CCE) or similar professional development achievements are also highly desired.
