About the Club
Established in 1947 and situated on 143 acres just outside of the Beltway, Bethesda Country Club is one of the Washington-Metro area’s premier full-service, family-centric country clubs. The Club is home to a membership that fully appreciates its commitment to exceptional social and athletic programming in a familial, informal and welcoming atmosphere for which the Club is renowned. Members enjoy an 18-hole Arthur Hills championship golf course, robust year-round racquets programming with indoor and outdoor tennis courts and paddle soon to come, active aquatics and fitness facilities, numerous options for junior programs, an active social calendar and some of the best dining and cuisine in the Metro area.

Bethesda Country Club differentiates itself by its diversity of membership, family focused culture and casual yet sophisticated ambiance. It is an exciting time for the Club as it continues the implementation of its thoughtful Long Range Improvement Plan, which will update and enhance aspects of the golf course, paddle courts, dining and event spaces, and pool facilities furthering its commitment to exceeding the expectations of the membership.

The Club is open year-round with the exception of a two-week period in January for maintenance. Clubhouse operations are closed on Mondays, with golf and fitness facilities remaining open. Dining services are available generally Tuesday through Sunday, with schedules varying depending on the time of year. Golf is available year-round, weather-permitting and the Pool is open Memorial Day through Labor Day. Gross revenue is $13.5 million with Food & Beverage accounting for $4.3 million. There are 175 staff members at the height of season and a total of 858 memberships today.

About the Position
Reporting to the President and Board of Directors, the General Manager/COO is responsible for driving all Club operations in pursuit of excellence. He or she will lead, coalesce, and further develop a team of dedicated senior managers including the Director of Finance, Director of Membership, Communication Manager, Executive Chef, Director of Food & Beverage/Youth & Pool, HR Manager, Member Services Manager, Head Golf Professional, Director of Grounds & Facilities, and Racquets Sports & Fitness Director. The General Manager/COO will work with the Director of Finance to develop the Club’s budgets and expertly manage expenses within the operation, maintaining appropriate financial discipline. There are opportunities for the next General Manager/COO such as driving a revitalized service culture throughout the Club and implement the Club’s Long Range Improvement Plan.

About the Ideal Candidate
The next General Manager/COO of Bethesda Country Club will be experienced in private clubs of similar scale and amenities, ideally from family-centric club environments. The successful candidate will have strong financial and business acumen balanced with a hospitality background that will bring presence and engagement to the membership as well as an eye for detail and service within the operation. A record of success in driving exceptional Food & Beverage operations is critical as is possessing strong communication skills; having a comfort level engaging with a diverse and sophisticated Washington – Metro membership and staff alike. The General Manager/COO must possess a dynamic, empowering, and unifying leadership style to lead the high-functioning senior management team, bringing them together to deliver a seamless and exceptional membership experience club-wide. As the Club looks to implement its Long Range Improvement plan, candidates having experience with significant capital project work is highly desired.
