About the Club

Established in 1964, Brae Burn Country Club is nestled on 150 acres in prestigious Westchester County, New York about 40 minutes north of New York City. A cherished part of the community, the Club offers its membership 18 holes of terrific golf on a meticulously manicured Frank Duane-designed course along with outdoor tennis, paddle tennis, aquatic, fitness, and a very active and robust social calendar. Brae Burn Country Club has a generous event space for member-sponsored private events. The Club has become known in the area for its vibrant social nature as evident of an active and connected membership that enjoys using their Club.

Club amenities include a 48,000 square-foot clubhouse, 18- hole golf course, driving range, pro-owned golf and tennis shops, 11 Har-Tru tennis courts, two lighted paddle tennis courts, Olympic-sized swimming pool and children’s pool, fitness room, men’s and ladies locker rooms, adult and junior sports clinics, summer camp and social calendar of events.

Operational year-round, from May through September the Club is open six days a week offering breakfast, lunch and dinner service Wednesday through Friday with a Family BBQ offered on Sundays. In the off-season from October through April, breakfast and lunch are served Thursday through Sunday, with Friday night dinners available for two of the four weekends during these months. The golf course remains open year-round, weather permitting.

The Club currently has a total of 335 members with 104 employees in the height of season. Total gross revenues are $8.2 million, of which $2.3 million is generated through food and beverage sales (55% from private events).

In recent years, the Club has completed significant clubhouse renovations to update a number of common areas and dining spaces. Currently underway is an indoor/outdoor practice facility and golf simulator project.

About the Position

The General Manager will drive excellence throughout the operations of Brae Burn Country Club which includes leading the high-functioning management team comprised of the Chief Financial Officer, Assistant General Manager, Executive Chef, Golf Professional, Grounds Superintendent, Tennis Professional and Engineer. The General Manager reports to a 13-person Board of Governors and will work closely with an active committee system to implement agreed upon policies, programs and events. In coordination with the CFO, the General Manager will produce the budget, and be responsible for expertly managing expenses along with growing revenues by way of increasing member usage in a la carte dining, private member sponsored events and golf outings. As the Club currently enjoys an active membership and social calendar, the General Manager will look forward to continue fostering this trend, further differentiating it in the club-saturated Westchester marketplace as the vibrant social family club. A focus on staff training and nurturing the member-focused service culture is a key role of the General Manager, ensuring not only a consistently excellent member experience in the Clubhouse, but throughout all departments.

About the Ideal Candidate

Successful candidates will be experienced General Managers from private clubs of similar scale and culture, or Assistant General Managers from larger exceptional clubs. Experience in the New York metropolitan area is highly desired. A dynamic General Manager with presence while being approachable, affable, a good listener and possess excellent communication skills is critical for this membership and staff. A track record of success in talent evaluation, recruitment, training and development is important as is having a strong food and beverage and hospitality background. Must be experienced in expertly managing expenses and have had past success with growing revenues, in particular, with unique member dining and events. An eye to evaluating and refining services, programs and events that resonate with the membership and further enhance the member experience would be beneficial.
