About the Club

Founded in 1914, the Country Club of Fairfield is situated on 115 acres on Sasco Hill overlooking Long Island Sound and Southport Harbor in the affluent residential area of Fairfield, Connecticut. This family oriented private Club is known for its informal, relaxed setting and prides itself on terrific sports and family programming opportunities. In addition to the Main Clubhouse, there is a Beach Club with a private beach which becomes a popular destination for casual dining and swimming from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Other amenities offered are the waterfront 18-hole Seth Raynor- designed golf course, nine outdoor tennis courts, three paddle courts with paddle hut, golf and racquets pro shops, swimming pool, private beach, and seasonal beach locker rentals. There are currently 400 members with 140 staff members in the height of season. Gross revenues total $5.75 million, with food and beverage sales totaling 1.2 million.

The Main Clubhouse is operational year round with the exception of January. Lunch service is offered Tuesday through Sunday, and dinner offered on Saturday evenings only. Dinner in the Clubhouse is also offered on Fridays from mid-June through mid-September. The Beach Club is operational Memorial Day until the weekend after Labor Day and offers lunch service seven days a week and dinner on Thursday and Sunday. Operating hours may change with the advent of the new clubhouse.

It is a very exciting time for the Club as it will be undertaking a complete renovation of the Main Clubhouse with construction scheduled to start October 2019 and reopen early 2021. During construction, the Club will operate temporary facilities from the Beach Pavilion through of summer 2020.

About the Position

The General Manager will report to the President and 13-member Board of Governors and will lead the committed management team that includes the Controller, Executive Chef, Golf Professional, Superintendent of Grounds, Tennis Professional, Dining Room Manager, Beach Manager, Locker Room Managers, Maintenance and Security. The General Manager will have full P&L responsibility and will drive all Club operations in pursuit of excellence. The General Manager will play an integral role during the clubhouse construction process and will ensure a well-prepared and on-time successful reopening of the facility. Outside of this major capital project, the new General Manager can look forward to opportunities shaping food and beverage programming, increasing member participation with dining and club events, and evaluating current systems, procedures and technology to create efficiencies, upgrades and enhance communication.

Compensation:  The Club will offer a competitive compensation plan, along with standard benefits. There is a house on property for the General Manager.

About the Ideal Candidate

The next General Manager of the Country Club of Fairfield will have prior general manager experience leading a similar scale and culture club as well as have had significant project management experience including opening a new clubhouse. Ideal candidates will have strong financial acumen, excellent communication skills and have led successful food and beverage operations in a competitive restaurant market. Having a track record in the successful marketing and promotion of dining related programming and events is highly desired. Ideal candidates will also have experience in upgrading and implementing technology systems and platforms for the website, email marketing, applications, and other relevant tools.

This relaxed, family-oriented style of the Club will require an affable General Manager who genuinely enjoys building club appropriate relationships and who has a humanistic management approach to lead, motivate and hold accountable the loyal management team.
