Conanicut Yacht Club | Jamestown, Rhode Island
General Manager

About the Club
Founded in 1892, Conanicut Yacht Club (“CYC”) is among the oldest yacht clubs in the United States. The Club was incorporated with the purpose of “encouraging yacht building and improvement in seamanship and the cultivation of naval science.“ Conanicut Yacht Club has come a long way since its founding, yet it maintains a vibrant, multi-generational and family centered membership to this day

CYC is located in the quaint town of Jamestown on Conanicut Island in the middle of Rhode Island’s Narragansett Bay, a world-renowned hub of international sailing. The main clubhouse looks out over the bay towards historic Newport and offers a full-service dining room and casual gathering spaces. The Club maintains a robust sailing culture, including its one-design racing program and other club racing opportunities. Each September, CYC hosts its widely popular Around the Island Race, which attracts around 100 entrants from far and wide and is the oldest continuously run sailboat race on Narragansett Bay, now in its 94th year. The Club owns and maintains 29 seasonal moorings and provides launch service to the members and guests. Members can enjoy using the club owned fleet of four J/22 sailboats available for day sailing, race charters, group or adult sailing and instruction. Other programs include adult sailing lessons and power boat instruction. The extensive and popular junior sailing program serves over 100 students, ages 5 to 17, sailing on club—owned prams, Optimists, Lasers, Bytes and 420s.

CYC also has a bustling, year-round racquets program. It hosts popular junior and adult tennis programs and offers group and private tennis and platform tennis lessons. The recently renovated state of the art racquets facility is located only one-half mile away from the main Clubhouse and includes eight Har-Tru tennis courts and two platform tennis courts. It includes casual indoor and outdoor gathering areas for viewing the competition and hosts social activities throughout the year.

CYC provides popular year-round dining services to its members and is known for fine dining and camaraderie created through its members’ shared knowledge and interest in sailing, racing, and otherwise being on the water that is exemplified by the membership’s tradition of active engagement in the Club’s organized activities.
