Cornerstone Club | Montrose, Colorado
General Manager

About the Club
Built-in 2007 by The Hunt Development Group, Cornerstone Golf Club is a private 18-hole golf community along with a 21-acre practice facility set within a huge, massive 4,800-acre site where the peaks of the West Elks, Cimarrons, and San Juans create a humbling backdrop. The opening tee shot is set at more than 9,200 feet above sea level. Located between Montrose and Telluride in the southwest of the Centennial State, Cornerstone’s 7,945-yard Greg Norman-designed Mountain course burst onto the scene in 2007, immediately sweeping up a plethora of magazine accolades, including a gushing headline from Golf Magazine: “Easily the best high-altitude course in the nation and quite possibly the world.”

Views from the course include the Western slop, the tabletop of Grand Mesa to the north, the serrated peaks of the West Elks and Cimarrons due east, and the saw-toothed San Juans to the south, all framed by aspens and pinons as you climb from 8,500 feet to 9,361 feet above sea level while playing the course.

The club closed in 2012 after the original developer sold out, but a group of Cornerstone property owners, spearheaded by longtime president Bob Aisner bought the course and commissioned Matt Dusenberry, designer/Architect for Greg Norman Golf Course Design to reinvigorate the layout, which completed late summer 2018, with a formal re-opening the following year.

In early 2022, Montage International was retained by the owners to manage the day-to-day operations. The Club’s mission is to develop a long-term strategic plan for the development to further amenity offerings for the Clubs members and guests within the causal mountain environment. The Montana-style clubhouse is open five months a year from Memorial Day to mid-October and offers fine dining in a casual setting. Most recently, the Club embarked on a Clubhouse expansion to include more dining space, a new bar, and outdoor seating around fire-pits. The new dining experience will offer a blend of relaxed refinement and culinary experience expressed through seasonal menus that integrate local ingredients.

A new administration building that will house fitness and other amenities including pickleball and tennis are near completion. The Club is surrounded by exceptional terrain that offers many multi-season activities that include 20 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and a 15-acre equestrian center for horseback riding.  Shooters can take aim on a target range, while anglers can cast into a stocked pond or head to the trout-rich waters of the nearby San Miguel, Dolores, and Gunnison rivers. During winter, members can cross-country ski on 10 miles of maintained trails and snowmobile and snowshoe for hours. Cornerstone Club also includes residential real estate opportunities featuring a variety of homesites and full-furnished cabins.

The Cornerstone Golf Club is located 20 miles southwest of Montrose, Colorado. Montrose is a growing community served by the fastest-growing airport in Colorado. While a place removed, it is far from remote. Grand Junction and Crested Butte are both within a two hours drive. Being on the western slopes, Salt Lake City, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Denver are all a short 5–6-hour drive.

The Club is open from late May until mid-October seven days a week. Dining is offered at the Clubhouse seven days a week for breakfast and lunch, and five days a week for dinner.
