Detroit Athletic Club | Detroit, Michigan
Executive Manager

About the Club

Founded in 1887, the Detroit Athletic Club (often referred to as the “DAC”) is one of the oldest and most well-respected private athletic and social clubs in the U.S.   Located next to Comerica Park in the heart of Detroit’s theater, sports, and entertainment district, the DAC continues to play a major role in the history of Detroit and Michigan. Built in 1915, the current clubhouse was designed by Albert Kahn and inspired by Rome’s Palazzo Farnese. The Club continues to be an icon and a beacon in the city of Detroit that has always stayed in touch with its roots.

The DAC instills the core values and mission of creating life-enriching experiences that build meaningful relationships, foster personal and professional growth and celebrate culture in the heart of Detroit among its more than 5,000 members. The DAC Foundation was created 100 years ago within the Club to carry out the mission of “Detroit’s Active Citizens” to support amateur athletics and athletes, sustain the community and showcase art and architecture. The DAC Foundation continues to build an enduring legacy that supports many programs throughout the Club and city of Detroit.

The Club has 29 upscale guest rooms, expansive full-service athletics facilities and programs, premier dining options and a multitude of social activities.  In addition, the DAC maintains reciprocal agreements for their members at other private clubs worldwide. In recognition of its premier status, the Club has earned the distinction of the #1 Athletic Club in the country and a Platinum Club of America as recognized by the Club Leaders Forum. Members include business professionals of all types, families, as well as professional athletes. Ty Cobb is among the athletes to have been a member of the DAC, among many others.

The Club is open year-round including holidays, with the exception of Christmas Day.  However, the hotel operates 365 days/year. The fitness center is closed on July 4th and Christmas Day.
