About the Club
Gulf Stream Bath & Tennis Club is a stunning private, member-owned club founded in 1952 and situated on the Atlantic Ocean in the breathtaking Gulf Stream community of Delray Beach. The Club offers robust programming in tennis and fitness, fantastic oceanfront dining, an active social calendar, and private beach access. Membership is full with a waiting list. Members enjoy the camaraderie and programming the Club presents, creating a vibrant social atmosphere.

Club amenities include the recently renovated 22,000 sq. ft. main oceanfront Clubhouse complete with an upper-level main dining room and veranda with bar/lounge as well as a lower-level ocean terrace grill and bar, swimming pool, five Har-Tru tennis courts and pro shop, 1,100 sq. ft. fitness center, lockers rooms, and group and private tennis lessons. In 2017, the entire Club was renovated to its current splendor. Future capital projects include improvements to the pool area and increasing the size of the fitness center.

Total revenue of the Club is $5 million with $2.1 million generated from F&B. There are 490 memberships. The beach, pool, and tennis operations are open year-round. Food and Beverage services are available 11 months of the year (closed in August). During high season, from November – May, dining is available Tuesday through Sunday, and in the off-season is available Thursday through Saturday. The Fitness Center is accessible with a key fob 24/7, year-round.

About the Position
This is a fantastic opportunity for a top-notch accounting professional to join a very well-established and respected private club situated in a beautiful oceanfront setting. The Controller reports to the General Manager and works as an integral member of the management team, supporting the Club and department managers by providing accurate and current data to facilitate informed decisions. The Controller supervises the accounting functions and directly assists the General Manager on all strategic matters relating to budget management, cost-benefit analysis, forecasting needs and internal controls. He/she develops policies to control and coordinate accounting, auditing, budgets, taxes and related activities and records; and develops, establishes, and administers procedures and systems pertaining to financial matters. The Controller prepares financial statements, forecasts, and analyses for all administrative and managerial functions, and maintains all accounting records. The Controller analyzes and interprets statistical and accounting information and evaluates operating results for costs, revenues, budgets, policies of operation, trends, and increased profit possibilities. This position serves as liaison to the Finance Committee and will work with the Club’s external auditors as necessary.

Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience and will include other standard benefits offered to management team members.

About the Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have five to seven years of professional accounting experience with at least two of those years in a private club setting. Experienced accounting professionals and Controllers from other hospitality organizations will be considered, as well as Assistant Controllers from larger private clubs.

The incoming Controller will be a team player and look forward to working closely with the General Manager and department heads to ensure the Club’s financial goals are met. This includes ensuring accurate and timely data and reporting are available and meaningful, and advising when course correction may be needed within the operation from a financial perspective. The Controller should be proactive, analytical and possess a track record of exercising sound judgement. At times the Controller will be interacting with members who may have inquiries making it important to have a positive, customer service approach to these engagements at all times. The successful candidate will be very well organized with the ability to work at a high level independently and prioritize effectively. Operating with a high degree of integrity and dedication, the Controller will be willing to share knowledge and assist managers in their financial understanding, therefor contributing to excellence within the operation. As is expected within the scope of this position, the Controller should be experienced and advanced with calculating figures and amounts for all bookkeeping, payroll, budgets, statistical analysis, and probability statements with the ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. The Controller should also have the ability to analyze investment returns and have knowledge and understanding of retirement plans, insurance programs, and pertinent federal and state employment laws and practices. Experience overseeing IT systems and HR functions within an organization is beneficial.

The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel as well as prior use of financial and accounting software applications, including POS applications (Clubessentials experience beneficial). Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance, ideally with CHAE or CPA certification are strongly preferred.
