About the Club
Founded in 1908 by 22 Alumni, the Harvard Club of Boston is one of the finest and most distinguished Clubs in Boston. The Club is filled with history and tradition and has served as a haven for social, intellectual, and athletic endeavors for over a century with the aim of “giving effective expression to the Harvard Spirit.”  The Club’s landmark Back Bay Clubhouse is traditional and elegant and hosts exquisite dining and intellectual activities. Based in the heart of Boston on Commonwealth Avenue, the Harvard Club of Boston is a Platinum City Club of the World and the only Platinum alumni club in Massachusetts.

Throughout the history of the Club, an impressive list of dignitaries have visited including Eleanor Roosevelt, Robert Frost, Henry Kissinger, William Taft, Walter Lippman, Julia Child, Barbara and President George H.W. Bush, President Jimmy Carter, President Bill Clinton and the King of Jordan just to name a few.

For over a century, the original mission of the Club is as viable as ever: “To be the social, intellectual, and athletic hub of Harvard alumni and our affiliated community in the Greater Boston area.” Members and their guests enjoy the classic wood paneled 80,500 sq. ft. Clubhouse as well as five Squash Courts, 25 Overnight Guest Rooms all with Private Baths, a 3000 sq. ft. Fitness Center, elegant restaurants and lounges, outdoor seasonal dining, Spa Treatment Rooms, and dedicated member spaces for co-working and conversation. Membership is open to alumni and associates of Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Yale University, and Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

The Club is open 24 hours/day due to the guest rooms.  Restaurant hours are currently Tuesday – Saturday, 7am – 10pm and the Club is committed to expanding. Athletic facilities are open year-round from 5am – 9pm.  Gross revenue exceeds $12 million with extensive growth potential as the Club will be acquiring a second location.  Food & Beverage accounts for $3.75 million and annual dues revenue at $6 million. There are 4400 memberships today.  Prior second location was closed due to Covid in March 2020.

About the Position
This is a unique opportunity for a first-rate financial leader to join a legacy city Club filled with history and tradition. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) reports to the General Manager and will work as an integral member of the management team and supervises the accounting and financial operations of the Club. He/she directly assists the Finance Committee and General Manager on all strategic matters relating to budget development and management, cost-benefit analysis, forecasting, long range planning, and internal controls. The CFO will also be responsible for controlling and coordinating accounting, auditing, budgeting, taxes, people management, and related activities and records. He/she develops, establishes, and administers procedures and systems pertaining to financial matters as well as prepare financial statements, forecasts, and analysis for administrative and managerial functions. The CFO analyzes and interprets statistical and accounting information and evaluates operating results for costs, revenues, budgets, policies of operation, trends and increased profit possibilities. He/she will be integral in the complex development of the future new facility from land acquisition to development plans and through construction.  In addition, the next financial leader will understand and embody the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) affirmations which permeates the Club.

Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

About the Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have seven years of professional accounting management experience with a minimum of half of those years serving in a CFO capacity. Hospitality experience is strongly preferred. He/she will also have a logical professional career progression with increased responsibility and relative employment stability. The next CFO will have experience working with and managing IT, and other related matters as well as experience with development and construction projects from an accounting/finance perspective.

The selected candidate will have a proven track record of excellent leadership, management, and verbal and written communication skills as well as advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial and accounting software applications, including POS applications. It is also important that the next CFO be versed in Massachusetts State and Federal Income Tax regulations, treasury and strategic planning functions.

It is vital for the next CFO to have a high degree of integrity, work ethic, as well as strong analytic skills, be well-organized; set priorities and delegate effectively. He/she should also have a positive attitude with outstanding member/guest service and be willing and able to work a varied schedule.

The successful candidate will Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance with CHAE or CPA certification. MBA, Masters in Finance, and/or CPA preferred.
