About the Club
Starting as a grand vision of Canadian industrialist, E. P. Taylor, the Lyford Cay community was developed on a 2,800-acre parcel of land on New Providence Island in the Bahamas. Purchased from Sir Harold Christie in 1955, construction started in 1956 with the Lyford Cay Club in the heart of the community opening in 1959. Since then, this masterfully designed community and retreat has enjoyed a rich history of notable clientele including celebrities, entertainers, socialites, global leaders and industry executives, international luminaries, and royal families. Over the years, Lyford Cay Club has become a close community that embraces tradition, family, mutual respect, and congeniality, with a long and rich Bahamian culture tradition. Located on one of the Caribbean’s most elegant and exclusive enclaves, the Club prides itself on a hospitality culture of highly personalized five-star service and amenities for its discerning and sophisticated membership.

This very private member-owned club features 18 holes of excellent golf originally designed by Dick Wilson and renovated by Rees Jones, state-of-the-art tennis and fitness center, full-service salon and spa, world-class cuisine, in-house conference services and meeting rooms, sailing, fishing and water sports recreation, three-quarter mile white sand beach, pool and cabanas, 41 overnight guest rooms and 20 guest cottages, and a vibrant social calendar for members and their guests. The Club also features a Yacht Club and 74-slip Yacht Harbour. The Club is operational year-round and has become a sought after destination for weddings and corporate outings.

Membership is by invitation only and is not guaranteed with homeownership in the surrounding Lyford Cay community. High season is from November through May with an additional spike in usage August and September during summer vacation periods for the U.S. and European members.

About the Position
Reporting to the Chairperson, the Managing Director will lead a team of tenured and extremely dedicated managers that include the CFO, and Directors of Operations, Member Relations, Human Resources, Facilities, Cuisine, Food & Beverage, Club Administration, Rooms, Tennis, Golf, Golf Course Maintenance, and the Harbour Master. Driving excellence throughout the property, the Managing Director will be a visible and dynamic leader, providing cohesiveness to the team and ensuring a consistency of excellent service across all departments. The Managing Director will work with and provide ongoing guidance to the Board and committee system, advising on global industry trends, best practices with matters of governance, and contributing to strategic planning. A full renovation is underway to the overnight rooms of the Main Clubhouse and will require the Managing Director to ensure successful completion along with overseeing the preparation for its reopening in summer 2022. Other opportunities for the incoming Managing Director include shaping a communications strategy, revitalize programming, and developing further the already highly personalized service levels.

About the Ideal Candidate
Model candidates will be seasoned luxury hospitality executives ideally with experience leading private clubs and highly regarded resorts internationally – experience working within the Caribbean or other island locations as most appealing. A track record of success in leading exceptional Food and Beverage operations is critical as well as leading sports and recreation areas with solid knowledge of golf, racquets, fitness, and marina operations. The Managing Director will have a business headset with strong financial acumen as it relates to running a business of this complexity and scale. Other attributes of the successful candidate are possessing a humanistic and approachable leadership style, excellent communication skills, a presence around the Club to membership and staff alike, experience with capital project management, strategic planning, and knowledge of infrastructure requirements for the short and long term. Deep and participatory boardroom experience is critical. The ideal candidate will look forward to living in The Bahamas and possess a high “EQ” to seamlessly transition into Bahamian culture, building meaningful and favorable relationships with staff and local vendors, contractors, and local government agencies. The Bahamas and Lyford Cay are very special destinations making it paramount that the new Managing Director have a strong desire to embrace the location as this will contribute greatly to success.
