About the Club

Located in Port Chester, New York on the border of Greenwich, Connecticut, Port Chester Golf Club is a privately-owned private club featuring a state-of-the-art indoor golf experience. The Club will operate as a private, member only Club for the predominance of the year but host a limited number of select corporate and social events to the public during the Club’s off season which we expect to be May through August.

This club model is a progressive concept for the private club industry that combines sophisticated social programming, wellness, spa, sport specific training and high-end informal dining while using the best in the industry golf simulators as its focal point.  Other services and amenities will include locker rooms, valet parking and meeting room space.  The facility is capable of hosting business and Board meetings, private events and is welcoming to men, women, and families. Membership is by invitation only with a 200-member target.

The Club will leverage its incredible location on the Port Chester, New York and Greenwich Connecticut border, approximately 45 minutes from Midtown Manhattan to attract members from the best high-quality golf and country clubs within a 45-minute commute from the Club.

About the Position

This is a start-up operation like no other! The General Manager will be able to build the management team and lead on the development and implementation of operational standards, SOPs, influence programming and all duties that accompany opening a new club operation. The General Manager will shape the member and guest experience as well as the overall service culture which will be driven by a personalized, member-centric philosophy. Other team members will include senior level managers in Golf, Membership Sales, Food & Beverage/Culinary, and Fitness/Wellness. The General Manager will report to the management company and Owner and oversee the day-to-day operations. This role will expose the successful candidate to members of various top country clubs in the New York and southern Fairfield County areas. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven golf and hospitality leader.

About the Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be passionate and knowledgeable about golf and will ideally have experience in golf operations along with broader, private club management experience, including food and beverage oversight. The General Manager must be flexible and able to manage up effectively to the management company and Owner with collective thinking and transparency. As this is a break-through, disruptive new concept in golf, the ideal candidate will be able to figure out how to leverage this type of operation to bring creative programming ideas to the table. This is expected to be a first rate, five-star facility therefor the General Manager needs to understand how to deliver a sophisticated and high-quality product and service with and through the management team.

Critical skills and attributes to possess include opening/start-up experience, solid financial acumen relative to club operations, dynamic leadership style, track record of success in attracting, training and retaining a high quality staff, food and beverage management experience, excellent written and verbal communication skills, approachability, polish, and a genuine passion for building appropriate member relationships. Directors of Golf and well-groomed Assistant General Managers should be encouraged to apply in addition to General Managers that are open minded to a non-traditional club environment and reporting relationship. This position is for a “starter,” not a finisher – it is not a caretaker role.

Placement will be in Q1 of 2020.
