About the Club
Shooting Star, at the base of the legendary Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (arguably the best ski mountain in North America), is located at one of the most beautiful places on earth. Teton County, currently the wealthiest county in the United States, is home to some of the best climbing, fly fishing and big mountain skiing in North America. Ski Magazine rates the resort as #1 in challenge; Powder Magazine rates Jackson as the second-best place in America to live a mountain lifestyle. The vast majority (over 97%) of Teton County is public land contained within Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, Bridger-Teton and Targhee National Forests and the National Elk Refugee.

Founded in 2009, Shooting Star has been acknowledged as one of the finest private clubs constructed in recent time with its 18-hole, par 72 Tom Fazio designed golf course and Hart/Howerton designed clubhouse. In 2021, it was rated as the eleventh Best Residential Golf Course in the United States by Golfweek and recently is a Platinum Club of America. The course measures 7568 yards and hosts 11,000 rounds annually. Built on fourth generation ranchland, Fazio moved two million cubic yards of dirt and planted 2,500 trees. The 40,000 sq. ft. clubhouse was constructed with the finest finishes and materials and offers a world class spa and fitness center, board room/ private dining room and member social areas. The locker rooms and support areas are five-star quality. The hub of larger social events is the Alpine Barn which provides ski lockers and separate ski storage.

Shooting Star opened in July of 2009 and is currently full with 345 golf members and 80 social members. Shooting Star is open year-round, six days a week with varying hours of operation from mid-May to mid-October and late November to mid-April. Gross revenue exceeds $15 million with Food & Beverage accounting for $1.6 million. There are 113 staff members at the height of season and a total of 465 memberships today.

About the Position
The General Manager reports to the Owner who sets policies and strategy based upon advice and participation from Membership and the Marketing Director. He/she in turn deploys these policies and strategies throughout Club operations through the management team and reports results to the Owner. The General Manager is accountable for the performance of the management team and staff and for all operating performance measured predominantly by member satisfaction. The General Manager manages all day-to-day operations related to all activities of Shooting Star and is responsible for the administration of employee matters, accounting, financial reporting, and in part, the Club’s community relations. It is expected that the Shooting Star experience be the best in the Rocky Mountains and keeping with the quality of the facility and housing stock.

Compensation: The Club will offer a competitive compensation plan, along with standard benefits.

About the Ideal Candidate
The General Manager of Shooting Star should have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible private club leadership positions which result in his/her present situation of having at least three years successful tenure as General Manager of a highly regarded private club. He/she should have a love for the mountain lifestyle and appreciation for the Jackson Hole culture and be an avid golfer and a skier. The ideal candidate will have a professional career “track record” of achievement and relative employment stability with proven leadership qualities who have demonstrated the ability to direct, coordinate and control all facets of a premier full-service golf or country club. The best candidates will have successful experiences in management roles in sophisticated mountain communities.

The next General Manager will have a strong set of professional credentials in the broad hospitality areas and be excellent in leading and partnering with a range of department heads. He/she must have excellent communication skills across departmental teams and be a humanistic leader/manager. It is also imperative that the next General Manager have excellent financial management, analytical and administrative skills. He/she should project confidence and gravitas while being warm, approachable, and respectful to all. In addition, the ideal candidate will have an overriding sense of quality consciousness that pervades every part of the Club experience as well as an incredible eye for detail.
