Sleepy Hollow Country Club | Briarcliff Manor, New York
Assistant General Manager
About the Club
Founded in 1911, Sleepy Hollow Country Club is one of the premier country clubs in the Northeast and one of the top country clubs in America. It has achieved a Platinum Club designation and owns a reputation as one of the best-managed organizations of its type. Its “Upper” or championship course is designated as one of the top 100 courses in America by each of the three major golf magazines.
Sleepy Hollow Country Club is a member-owned full-service country club on the grounds of a former Vanderbilt family estate in Scarborough, New York, thirty miles north of Manhattan with breathtaking views of the Hudson River. The Club membership has a well-earned reputation for being considerate, respectful, and family-focused. Families have maintained memberships in the Club for generations and the Club is proud of its efforts to create a diverse membership profile.
The Club facilities feature an 1893 iconic McKim, Meade, and White-designed historic 60,000 square foot clubhouse; an 18-hole championship course, 9-hole short course, 6-acre practice range, and 2-acre short game practice area; 10 Har-Tru tennis courts, pool area restaurant and outdoor bar and swimming pool complex; four platform tennis courts; a Squash and Fitness building; 50 horse riding stable, related paddocks and indoor riding rink; a skeet and trap ranges with a 1930’s log shooting cabin, and (18) overnight suites in the mansion clubhouse. In addition, there are several cottages housing key employees and (16) staff rooms in the main building. There are three kitchens on the property that provide an innovative and creative culinary experience for members while delivering the best in taste & presentation. Additional structures across the property are used for ground maintenance equipment and storage of equipment and supplies.
The Club’s 18-hole course was designed by master architects C B Macdonald and Seth Raynor in 1911 and later renovated by AW Tillinghast when the “Lower” 9-hole short course was added in 1930. Beginning in 2006 Gil Hanse led a substantial renovation of golf courses. This renovation and subsequent greens renovation were so successful that the work was recognized as the #1 Renovation in World Ranking for five years and moved the course into the top 100 rankings. Sleepy Hollow hosted the 2002 USGA Women’s Amateur and will host the 2023 USGA Mid-Amateur Tournament and has hosted dozens of Met Area professional and amateur championships.
The Club has made substantial capital investments in recent years, including the first phase of a two-stage renovation of the irrigation system, a full renovation of the pool, pool area locker rooms, and restaurant, and solving accessibility challenges and completing detailed renovations to the first floor of the mansion clubhouse. The Club is open five days per week in the winter and six days in the summer. The Club restricts aspects of the facilities on Mondays in season for golf outings. Gross revenue annually is $20 million with Food, Beverage, and Service accounting for $7.4 million. There are currently 657 total memberships.
