About the Club
Opened in 1916, St Clair Country Club is set on 265 acres in a residential community Southwest of downtown Pittsburgh, amidst the picturesque hills of western Pennsylvania. The reputation of St. Clair Country Club has been synonymous with the very best in club life and amenities in Western Pennsylvania. It retains the quiet ambiance and character of a pastoral countryside yet is only ten miles from downtown Pittsburgh.
The St. Clair’s lifestyle consists of a magnificent 18-hole Championship golf course designed by Dick Wilson and Joe Lee that is nestled on 265 manicured acres with newly renovated bunkers in 2021. The Course is ranked top twenty in the state of Pennsylvania by Golf Digest. Additionally, there is a challenging Terrace nine-hole course which was designed by Tom Bendelow in 1916 and is perfect for families and players who are new to the game. These 27 holes at St. Clair provide both an esthetic and challenging golf experience. There are extensive Men’s, Ladies and Junior tournaments and programs as well as a Caddy Program.
To add to the golf experience, St. Clair offers a state-of-the-art golf simulator, equipped with the latest technology for club fitting, a short game practice facility, and a separate driving range equipped with TrackMan Range available for member practice and clinics. The Golf Shop is Club owned and boasts a large selection of merchandise and is licensed to sell all the top brands including Callaway, Taylor Made, and Titleist.
Additional amenities to add to this family-friendly community include a 67,000-square-foot Clubhouse with incredible views from the patio. There are six different dining venues to appeal to all members and families. There are four paddle tennis courts, a heated swimming pool with a diving area, and separate children’s pool that is enjoyed in the summer months and offers a full-service snack bar. Families also enjoy the swim and dive teams and events.
Gross revenues exceed $14 million with annual dues at approximately $7 million and Food and Beverage accounting for approximately $3 million. There are 282 staff members at the height of the season and a total of 861 memberships. Clubhouse operations are open year around with dining service varying in days based on the time of year. In October of 2023, the Club will begin a $35 million renovation project.
About the Position
The General Manager is responsible for driving excellence and leading all operations of St Clair Country Club consistent with the strategy and policies established by the Board of Governors (Board) as well as by the By-laws and Rules and Regulations of the Club. This includes working in conjunction with the Controller in the preparation and final draft of the annual operating and capital budgets, which will be subject to the approval of the Finance Committee and Board. About the Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of six years of progressively more responsible private club management positions leading up to a General Manager at a well-regarded private country club ideally of similar scale, culture, and amenities. Assistant General Managers from larger, more complex operations will be considered. He/she will have a track record of enhancing the member experience at a private club or resort operation as well as a strong financial understanding.
The General Manager will have a track record of shaping and leading excellent food and beverage programming and operations as well as success with growing quality private event business. He/she should have experience with developing and implementing membership marketing plans and a record of success in training service-oriented staff in a private club environment. The next General Manager will have experience reporting to a Board and with capital project oversight.
A college graduate is preferred, however possessing professional club industry certifications along with relevant work experience is also beneficial.
