About the Club
Established as a private members club in 1957, The Tryall Club has a rich and storied history in Jamaica predating 1700 under its first owner, Henry Fairchild, and through the years that followed as a sugar plantation, a fort site for Spanish and French conflict and several changes of ownership. Set within a 2,200-acre historical estate recognized as part of Jamaica’s National Heritage and situated amongst the rolling hills and mountains on the eastern border of the site, today the Club offers breathtaking vistas of the Caribbean, one and a half miles of sea, abundant fruit and flowering trees, and natural scenic beauty.

The Tryall Club is a private, member-owned luxury club centered on a staffed, private villa experience. Currently comprised of 92 privately-owned member villas, guests of members may rent the villas and gain access to Club amenities through a Temporary Membership fee. Club membership is available on a limited basis to non-homeowners in other categories. There are a total of 124 memberships (86 equity) and gross revenues of the club excluding villa rental fees are $10 million. Each uniquely designed villa has its own year-round staff to oversee the caretaking of the home and provide dining, housekeeping, and laundry services, delivering the best of Jamaican hospitality to the members and their guests; to create memories for life, every day. There are 195 Club employees and an additional 410 villa staff. Food and Beverage revenues are just under $2 million.

Members and their guests enjoy a variety of amenities year-round including 18 holes of terrific golf with incredible ocean views, waterfront dining at the Beach Club, private beaches, racquet sports, hiking trails, swimming pools, sailing and other water sport opportunities, fitness facilities and classes, overnight rooms at the main clubhouse (The Great House), and junior programming and children services.

Through a fund established by the villa owners, the Club is proud to support various initiatives related to health, education and welfare in the local Hanover Parish where the Club is located. In addition, The Tryall Club values the strong employee culture, sponsoring numerous sporting events and activities to bring the teams together. The sense of community and hospitality extended by the staff is woven into the fabric of the Club make it a truly special place. About the Position
This is an unmatched opportunity to lead a truly luxury, private club operation and community of uniquely designed villas in the lush and beautiful setting of eastern Jamaica overlooking Montego Bay. The Managing Director will report to the President and nine-member Board of Directors and will lead a team of dedicated senior managers that include the Chief Financial Officer, Director of Operations, Sales, Marketing & Communications Director, Human Resources Director, Executive Chef, Golf Director, Villa Operations Manager, Security Director, Chief Engineer, and Executive Assistant. The Managing Director directs all management functions and drives all Club operations in pursuit of excellence, keeping at the forefront the mission to offer and deliver outstanding, multi-generational experiences with beach resort facilities and a world class golf course. This critical Club leader provides cohesion, inspiration and motivation to the management team and will continue to nurture the deeply committed service culture, refining standards to elevate the member and guest experience further. He or she will look forward to completing Phase I of the Master Plan that includes a full restaurant renovation as well as drive the approval process with the Board for Phase II plans. The Managing Director works closely with the CFO to develop the Club’s annual operating and capital budgets, as well as maintains productive and positive Board relations, providing ongoing guidance and expertise on operations, strategic planning and matters of governance.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and will include benefits and housing for the Managing Director and family.

About the Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned luxury private club or resort leader, experienced in leading similar scale, scope and caliber operations. It is critical to have experience working in the Caribbean, preferably in Jamaica, and possess an appreciation for island life and local culture. The Managing Director will be a dynamic individual with a demonstrated humanistic style of executive leadership, coaching and fostering a positive employee environment of teamwork while holding the team accountable to established 5-star standards. Critical skills and attributes of this individual also include excellent financial and business acumen relative to club or hospitality operations, capital project planning and project oversight, effective communications to reach all levels of the organization and with international members and other stakeholders, and political savvy. An eye for detail in the overall management of a multi-faceted operation including overnight rooms/villas and a strong set of luxury-level professional credentials in the broad hospitality areas will contribute to the success of the Managing Director. Experience managing up to a Board and with a committee system is highly preferable.

The successful candidate will possess a four-year college degree, ideally with a specialization in Business and/or Hospitality Management. An advanced degree would be highly attractive. Certification such as the Certified Hotel Administrator and Certified Club Manager will be found beneficial.
