About the Club

Wing & Barrel Ranch is a privately-owned hunting and sporting lifestyle club located on 1,000 acres in the heart of wine country in beautiful Sonoma, California less than an hour from San Francisco. The new 18,000 sq ft clubhouse, commanding breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and Sonoma Creek, along with other member facilities will be completed in late 2019 and will open mid-year 2020. There are currently over 270 memberships sold of the 500 total membership sales target with a number of members that include renowned area vintners and wineries reflective of some of the finest wines in the world. With the vision of the Founders to create “the most incomparable, hospitality driven private hunting club in America,” Wing & Barrel Ranch offers its membership a world class sporting clay course, upland bird hunting, and crafted culinary experiences. The Club has been designed with a hunter’s sensibilities and a connoisseur’s palate to appeal to discerning sportsmen, women, and their families. Benefits of membership will include seasonal bird hunting, year-round sporting clays, customized shooting and fly casting instruction, travel programs, dog training and boarding.

Celebrated Chef, Charlie Palmer, Wing & Barrel Ranch’s Culinary Advisor, has designed the new clubhouse dining room and kitchen which will offer members and their guests full-service dining throughout the year, featuring fresh, seasonal menus reflecting the bounty of the land expertly paired with fine wines from Sonoma and the Napa Valley. Other clubhouse amenities include: The Trap Bar, an exquisite dining room, premier shooter’s pro shop with the highest quality hunting gear, retail gun vault stocked with an inventory of shotguns available through the club’s Federal Firearms License, private meeting rooms, locker facilities, an enclosed cigar room and expansive deck. The walk-in humidified cigar retail room is situated on the main floor of the clubhouse adjacent to The Cigar Lounge, which houses members’ cigar lockers, including state-of-the-art ventilation. The Clubhouse will be open year-round, Wednesday through Sunday.

Wing & Barrel Ranch is just one of 12 Premium Beretta Dealers in the U.S. and the only Purdey dealer in California. A dedicated team of instructors who are trained to the highest standards and are amongst the most experienced shooting instructors in the state are on staff for private and group instruction. The world-class sporting clays course, designed by renowned British clay course designer, Chris Batha, covers 25 acres and includes a high shooting tower and state-of-the-art equipment bestowing a diverse range of target presentations all digitally controlled by the shooting pro through a wireless target management system. There are 24 upland bird hunting fields offering seasonal pheasant, chukar and quail hunting from April to October with access to club dogs and guides. An 8,500 sq ft facility houses dog kennels for up to 44 dogs; each kennel features its own run and exercise area.

Wing & Barrel Ranch honors the natural beauty of country life in Sonoma County by being stewards of the land. The Club continually strives to lead the industry with regard to sustainable, forward thinking management of the property in balance with the ecological, recreational and agricultural activities on site.

About the Position

The General Manager will report to the Executive Board and be a leader on the opening team for this exclusive, hospitality driven, sporting lifestyle Club. He/she will lead the senior management team that includes the Controller, Operations Manager, Guest Services Manager, and Executive Chef. The General Manager will drive excellence in pursuit of exceeding member expectations throughout the operation. While design, construction and concept are well in place and underway, the General Manager will look forward to managing logistics around opening the new clubhouse along with shaping programming and the overall member experience in line with the vision of the Club. Leveraging relationships with area vintner and winery members will be critical to drive wine and culinary related programming as well as to nurture prospective members. This role requires collaborating with culinary leadership to deliver world class dining and culinary events fitting for a luxury experience in Wine Country. The General Manager will have P&L responsibility for the operation.

About the Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will deeply appreciate the sporting and hunting nature of this unique club and will have an interest in its related outdoor pursuits. Previous General Manager experience in a private club or luxury preserve-type operation with similar amenities is critical. The successful candidate will be hospitality driven, member-focused and embrace the start-up nature of this position. Experience and success with creating and implementing systems and procedures, defining and conveying excellent standards, and shaping an unmatched member experience is highly desired. A strong background in food and beverage, and being knowledgeable about wine is important. The General Manager must be flexible in order to successfully collaborate with senior management team members and outside culinary partners to develop and implement creative, world class dining and wine programming that the Club will feature.

The General Manager is expected to be visible, approachable and charismatic to engage with a sophisticated and well-traveled membership. Previous “opening” experience is highly desired. A desire to live in Sonoma County and embrace the wine country lifestyle is a must.
