About the Club
Established in 1958, Fairmount Country Club is a community-driven private golf & country club located in Chatham, New Jersey. Fairmount is a vibrant year-round country club with a welcoming, friendly atmosphere, casual and upscale dining, and active social, golf, racquets, and pool offerings in a resort-like setting. The members choose Fairmount for its unique combination of recreation and relaxation in a friendly environment that offers everything one seeks in a country club without stuffy pretense. It is a place that is an essential part of the fabric of the community; a place for families to enjoy sports and recreation and to meet friends new and old; a place to shed the day-to-day cares of the world and enjoy the gracious companionship of fellow members.

Fairmount Country Club’s crown jewel is an 18-hole Hal Purdy-designed golf course, located on a 128-acre parcel of land. Today, the challenging 18-hole course features five sets of member tees and is exceptionally well-maintained and sought-after. Practice areas include a driving range, short-game practice area, and a state-of-the-art indoor practice facility with two simulators. The club just recently completed a successful renovation to the golf course renovating 63 bunkers and three tee-complexes. Beyond golf, the Club features four tennis courts, four platform/paddle courts, and a swimming pool. Golf and racquets pro shops offer members the latest equipment, fashionable attire, and accessories. In the summer months Fairmount offers swim lessons and racquets clinics for junior and adult players of all levels as well as a competitive swim team and a variety of kids camps for children and teens.

The Club’s beautiful 30,000 square foot clubhouse features multiple dining options and rooms . The Main Clubhouse is currently in the construction stage of one of the most transformational renovations in Club history, with the entire interior being renovated, inclusive of a new bar and kitchen. Upon reopening, in December of 2025, the Club is forecasting increased output and revenue streams, to increase the overall profitability of operation.

Just outside on the outdoor patio beside the 18th hole, members enjoy leisurely dining along with firepits and rocking chairs or an indoor option of the Mixed-Grill Room. There is also a large ballroom which hosts the large-scale member and private events throughout the year and is included as part of the current renovation. The main Clubhouse houses the men’s and women’s locker rooms, administrative offices, two bars, and a full kitchen. Situated across the putting green is the golf pro shop, bag room and halfway house.

The Club also boasts a secondary yet highly utilized 20,000 square ft Clubhouse situated between the tennis courts and pool which generates a lot of activity during the summer and winter seasons. Timmons House serves as host to some of the premier Platform tennis events, and the unique layout enables the Club to host fabulous racquet and swimming functions.

Gross revenues exceed $10 million, with annual dues at approximately $5.5 million. There are 180 staff members at the height of the season and a total of 485 memberships. The Club is in the initial phase of a Master Plan, with the directional scope of renovating the Main Clubhouse, and a full renovation of bunkers. Total cost of both projects is approximately $14 million.

About the Position
The Director of Finance will work as an integral member of the management team and Partner with the General Manager as s/he supervises the senior accountant and Accounts Payable operations of the Club. S/he directly assists the Finance Committee and General Manager on all strategic matters relating to budget development and management, cost-benefit analysis, forecasting needs, and internal controls. The Director of Finance reports directly to the General Manager and controls and coordinates accounting, auditing, budgeting, taxes, people management, and related activities and records. S/he will evaluate and ultimately establish systems and procedures for all financial matters, evaluate technology across campus, streamline the HR functions, and create forward-thinking metrics to drive management decisions using KPIs, Benchmarking, and Analytic Scorecards. In addition, the next Director of Finance will be integrally involved in managing the financing related to a major Clubhouse renovation to commence in Fall 2024.

The Director of Finance will support all department heads and staff regarding accounting and financial controls and continuously look for process improvements and advancement in internal controls. The department currently has two Accounting Specialists the Director of Finance will manage and mentor.

About the Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have at least seven years of accounting experience, preferably working at clubs or other hospitality organizations with a 501(3) non-profit designation. Experienced accounting professionals from diverse organizational backgrounds and Assistant Director of Finance s employed by larger private clubs will be considered.

He/she will have excellent/advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and prior use of financial and accounting software, including POS applications – ideally Jonas and other club software. The selected candidate will have a proven track record of excellent leadership, management, and verbal and written communication skills and a high degree of integrity, work ethic, and dedication. He/she must have strong analytic and technical skills and a positive attitude. Additionally, he/she will have experience managing the Human Resources function at a Club, Hospitality, and/or Non-Profit organization and be willing and able to help coach department heads with budgeting, forecasting, and course correcting as needed.

Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance with CHAE or CPA certification preferred. MBA is a plus.
