About the Club
The Country Club, founded in 1889, is a family-centric, full-service country club that has played an important role in Cleveland’s history for over a century. The Club offers a wide range of sports and social activities grounded in a tradition of excellence. Its historic golf course, designed by William Flynn, has hosted major events like the 1935 US Amateur Championship and the 2012 US Women’s Amateur Championship. Notably, Golf Digest ranked holes #15 and #17 among the top 100 in America.
The Club features a stately granite clubhouse with diverse dining options, exceptional locker rooms, a fitness center, sitting rooms, and a few overnight suites. An expanded outdoor dining deck overlooks an updated pool complex with a casual bar area. The Club also offers a skeet range and a newly renovated all-weather racquet facility for tennis, paddle, and pickleball. Multiple private party rooms and dining options provide ample opportunities for social interaction.
Locals refer to the Club as “Country.” Its greatness stems from its rich history, superb facilities, and the camaraderie and community among its members.
Gross revenue is $13.5 million, with Food and beverage accounting for $3.7 million. There are 641 members, nine board members and 285 employees in-season.The Club is in the midst of a $13M clubhouse renovation project.
About the Position
The Director of Finance is a vital management team member, overseeing all functions of the Accounting Department. Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Director of Finance collaborates on strategic matters such as budget development, cost-benefit analysis, forecasting, and internal controls. This role involves managing accounting, auditing, budgeting, taxes, personnel, reporting systems, and processes.
The Director of Finance is responsible for controlling and coordinating financial activities and records, developing and administering financial procedures and systems, and preparing financial statements, summaries, forecasts, and analyses. Additionally, this role involves analyzing and interpreting statistical and accounting data and evaluating operating results for costs, revenues, budgets, policies, trends, and profit opportunities.

About the Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for the Director of Finance role will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, with CHAE or CPA certification(s) preferred, and an MBA considered a plus. He/she should possess at least five years of professional finance or accounting experience, with a minimum of three years at a Controller level, ideally within clubs or hospitality organizations. However, experienced professionals from various organizational backgrounds will also be considered.
A proven track record of leadership, management, and excellent verbal and written communication skills is essential. The candidate must be highly organized, detail-oriented, able to thrive in a fast-paced as well as team-oriented environment and possess a servant leadership mentality. He/she should have an advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and experience with financial and accounting software applications, including POS systems. Integrity, a strong work ethic, and dedication are crucial attributes, along with robust analytic skills and sound judgment. The candidate should have a positive attitude and excel in member and guest service, comfortably interacting with members. He/she should also be willing and able to coach department heads on budgeting, forecasting, and financial stewardship to foster a team environment.
