About the Club
Established in 1903, Abenaqui Country Club is a private, member-owned club located in Rye Beach on New Hampshire’s scenic seacoast. The Club combines tradition with modern amenities, providing members and their guests with exceptional golf, racquet sports, dining, and social experiences. The 44,000 sq. ft. clubhouse features elegant dining rooms, a full-service bar, spacious event spaces, and an outdoor veranda overlooking the course. The 18-hole Arthur Harris Fenn-designed course hosts more than 23,000 rounds each year, and in Spring 2026, the Club will unveil a new $8 million Golf House with simulators, locker rooms, and a lounge. Additional amenities include four Har-Tru tennis courts, professional golf and tennis shops, a card room, and robust junior programs, making Abenaqui a vibrant year-round community for its members.

About the Position

The Controller is a key member of the management team, reporting directly to the General Manager and working closely with the Finance Committee. This role oversees all accounting and financial operations of the Club, including budgeting, forecasting, auditing, and compliance. The Controller ensures the integrity of financial information, supports strategic decision-making, and provides leadership in financial stewardship across departments.

What You’ll Do

  • Direct the Club’s financial operations, policies, and internal controls.
  • Oversee all accounting functions, including payroll, A/P, A/R, fixed assets, billing, and inventory.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, forecasts, and variance analyses.
  • Develop and manage operating and capital budgets in collaboration with leadership and department heads.
  • Safeguard funds, ensure accurate deposits, and oversee collections.
  • Support human resources and benefits administration, including payroll compliance and 401(k) management.
  • Coordinate annual audits, tax preparation, and insurance renewals.
  • Supervise and mentor the accounting team while fostering cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Provide technology oversight for accounting systems and club-wide financial applications.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or CHAE preferred, MBA a plus.
  • At least seven years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within clubs, hospitality, or nonprofit environments.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, tax compliance, and financial reporting.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing and developing staff.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in accounting and POS systems (Jonas preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, audits, and capital financing.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with both staff and member leadership.
  • Integrity, attention to detail, and a commitment to service excellence.
