About the Club
Founded in 1901, Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, New Jersey, is a private, member-owned, family-oriented country club committed to the very best in golf, dining, sports, and social engagement. With a heritage spanning more than 120 years, Canoe Brook is recognized as both a Platinum Club of America and a Platinum Club of the World.

The Club is home to two renowned championship 18-hole golf courses designed by Walter Travis and Rees Jones, hosting approximately 35,000 rounds annually. The North Course, ranked among America’s 100 Greatest Courses from 1967 through 1970, has hosted the U.S. Open Sectional Qualifiers, the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, and the American Junior Golf Tournament. The Golf Performance Center offers the 1050 members a state-of-the-art range with Trackman technology in 24 bays. Beyond golf, members enjoy four Har-Tru tennis courts and a Hard Court, eight Pickleball courts, six Paddle courts, and a 25-meter swimming pool, supported by dedicated pro shops will a full slate of junior and adult programming.

The 68,000-square-foot clubhouse, open February 15th through January 1st, houses multiple dining venues along with a grand ballroom and additional venues for private events. Eight well-appointed guestrooms are available for Member and Guest use as well.

Leading Canoe Brook comes with the added benefit of living in and around the Summit, New Jersey area. Summit is considered one of Union County’s most desirable suburban communities, known for its beautiful homes, outstanding schools, walkable downtown, and direct rail service to New York City. Newark Liberty International Airport is also convenient just 25 minutes away. Nearby Short Hills/Millburn, Chatham, and Madison offer excellent neighborhoods and school systems as well.

Canoe Brook Country Club offers an incoming General Manager the chance to lead a storied, dual Platinum-designated club with world-class facilities and a deeply engaged membership, set within one of New Jersey’s most exceptional communities. S/he will guide the Club through ~$50M in capital projects over the next several years.

About the Position
Ideal Start Date: January 2027

The General Manager is expected to coordinate and direct all management functions of the Club and work in concert with Committee Chairs to assist them in developing policies, programs, and events. S/he will be responsible for the daily operations of the Club, monitoring the quality of the Club’s products and services to ensure maximum member and guest satisfaction, and will endeavor to ensure an atmosphere of hospitality, friendliness, and goodwill. In addition, the General Manager will ensure that the Club continually evolves to remain relevant to the membership and provide guidance on all future capital projects.

Given Canoe Brook’s robust pipeline of capital investment, an estimated $50 million in projects planned over the next decade, strong Capital Project Management experience is central to success in this role. The General Manager will be expected to guide the Club and Board through the planning, sequencing, and execution of these projects from the Pool Expansion and new Tennis/Pickleball Facility already underway through the South Course Renovation and future North Course Renovation.The next leader will serve as a custodian of the culture, history, and traditions of Canoe Brook Country Club, providing quality leadership and a positive image to the Membership, staff, and community.

Qualified Candidates will have:
• Extensive experience leading large-scale capital improvement projects and guiding a Board through the planning, approval, and implementation process; this is a key priority given Canoe Brook’s robust, multi-year capital investment pipeline.
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, or equivalent is preferred; CCM, CCE, or similar professional certification is highly desired, and PGA certification is a plus.
• A minimum of 15 years of progressively more responsible club management positions and experience as a General Manager at a progressive and family-friendly private club of similar scale and culture.
• A professional track record of achievement and relative employment stability, with experience building budgets, managing financial metrics, and course-correcting to attain financial goals.
• A high golf “IQ” and understanding of basic agronomy practices, with experience delivering a high-end golf services operation; multi-course and caddie program experience is strongly preferred.
